Upa (Animal Skin).

Adayi Onukaba is an Ebira jobless man in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. Nigeria. He is in his early 30’s he’s a very determined man, and a hard worker, he is one of those men that can’t do hard labours.

One faithful day, Adayi Onukaba received a phone call from his younger brother working in Pathfinder Hotels and Suits Ado Ekiti for a sweeper vacant position, he applied for the job  of “sweeper” at Pathfinder Hotels.

The HR interviewed him..
Then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.
“You are Appointed” he said.
“Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the forms to fill in”.
Adayi Onukaba replied “But I don’t have a computer, neither an email, I’m only managing this my 3310 Nokia phone.”
“I’m sorry”, said the HR manager…
“If you don’t have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn’t exist, cannot have the job.”
Adayi Onukaba left with no hope at all.

He didn’t know what to do, with only N5,000 given to him by his brother in his pocket.
He then decided to go to Oja-Oba market in Ado Ekiti & buy Sheep Skin (Upa Huuru) also known as kpomo. He bought Upa Huuru of about 5 Rubbers totaling at N4,500. Per rubber was N900.
He then sold the Sheep Skin (Upa Huuru) without washing in a Door to Door round. In less than 4 days, he succeeded to double his capital, and was still left with about 2 Rubbers of skins.
This two rubbers of skin remaining he decided to take it to the market the next day which is the fifth day of buying the skin (Market in Ado Ekiti is 5,5 days basis.

Adayi Onukaba did as planned, he washed the skin neetly with hot water and was able to sell everything in the space of three hours, because the skin was not popularly known among Yoruba people but he managed to convince some Yoruba people to buy (there is nothing bad in trying new things).

Adayi Onukaba was so amazed as he realized his feeding alowance for the next week, have double of his capital and was still left with extral profit.
Adayi Onukaba realized that he can survive this way, and started to go everyday earlier and return late. Thus, his money doubled or tripled everyday.

Shortly, he bought a Wheelbarrow, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. 5 years later, the man is one of the biggest meat retailers in Ekiti State.

He started to plan his family’s future, and decided to have his own house. He called a Real Estate agent, and chose a house to buy.
When the conversation was concluded, the Real Estate agent asked him his email. Adayi Onukaba replied, “I don’t have an email.”
The agent answered curiously, “You don’t have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!”
Adayi Onukaba thought for a while and replied, “Yes, I would have been a sweeper at Pathfinder Hotels”. The agent has to leave quietly. He bought the house and also got married to his long time girlfriend at the age of 36.

With Adayi Onukaba’s younger brothers connection he was given contracts to start supplying Pathfinder Hotels, and some other top restaurants in Ado Ekiti local foodstuffs.

Adayi Onukaba faced a lot of challenges during this business, he was bad mouthed by his fellow Ebira Jobless friends, they said selling of Upa is a woman’s business that Adukaba was nothing but a useless and a lazy man, and also lost money while trading, also risks arrests from sanitation agents.

Moral of the story:

1) Internet/email/Twitter/whatsapp might not the solution to your problems.
2) If you don’t have facebook a/c., internet/email/bbm/whatsapp , and work hard, you can be a millionaire.
3) Your age doesn’t matter, whatever will be will be.
4) God has not forsaken you.

I hope you were inspired by this post?  Don’t forget to share with your friends so that they can be inspired too.
